There is only one vision for mankind.
Your assignment is your unique role in God’s vision.
For every assignment given, there is a corresponding seat of authority.

There is only one vision for mankind.
God’s vision is to establish the Abrahamic covenant and bless all the people of the earth through Jesus. Did you know that? Genesis 12:2-3 describes this vision:
“I will make you into a great nation,
and I will bless you;
I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing.
I will bless those who bless you,
and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth
will be blessed through you.
”This vision is again referred to in Galatians 3:8 which says, “Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: ‘All nations will be blessed through you.’”
So that’s it. There’s only one vision. And yet from this singular idea comes infinite possibility.
Your assignment is your unique role in God’s vision.
God’s is a global initiative. It’s universal. And therefore it involves you.
This means you have a unique assignment from Him.
Your divine assignment is the eternal purpose for which you were created; it is what you were put on this earth to complete.
Jesus had an assignment too. “I have come that they may have life,” he says in John 10:10. Jesus had an assignment from God the Father and so do you.
Have you ever stopped to examine your life and discover your assignment?
When you get a hold of your role in God’s vision, you will experience a deep, personal satisfaction like never before.But first you need a seat.
For every assignment given, there is a corresponding seat of authority.
Just because Jesus had an assignment, does not mean he necessarily had a channel through which he could live that out. He needed a seat too.
Luke 4:20-21 describes him literally taking a seat in the chair reserved for Israel’s saviour: a seat prepared just for him.
“Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him. He began by saying to them, ‘Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.’”
This scene in Luke is hugely significant. Jesus had just finished reading a prophetic description of his assignment. Then Jesus took his seat of authority as the Messiah and his ministry began; he started healing and performing miracles.
Jesus needed a seat from which to exercise his authority. Thankfully, God had been preparing that seat for him.
Not a power play
It’s important to understand that God prepares our seats for us.You might be thinking it’s a good idea to go and get “the best seat in the house”. But that’s what the devil tried and it didn’t work for him. Lucifer went for God’s seat and failed (Isaiah 14:12-15). His heart became proud (Ezekiel 28:17).
That’s why some of us fail too, in our careers or our personal lives. Our ambition to go for a seat that’s not rightfully ours can result in disaster.
The following story about David reveals how assignments and seats can play out in real life.
The story of King David
(David)… has hidden in some pit or cave. And when he comes out and attacks… there will be panic among your troops… - 2 Samuel 17:9
David was a shepherd before he was a giant-killer. And he was a fugitive before he was a king.
David was talented and chosen by God to lead the nation of Israel but he wound up running from King Saul. This was not the life he had been promised!
1 Samuel 16:13 describes Samuel anointing young David to be king. Here David receives an assignment from God. But David’s road to fulfilling his assignment required that he first have a seat of authority.
There are many people like David who have a calling—who are anointed, gifted, and who have a heart like God’s—but are stuck hiding in a cave like a fugitive.
You can be called, gifted, or anointed—you can have a heart after God—but if you are not positioned in your proper seat of authority you will never be able to fulfill your assignment.
Think of a police officer
When an officer wakes up in the morning and gets ready for work, he or she puts on a uniform.
A uniform gives an officer the authority to wave down a vehicle and make it stop. An officer has the ability to lift his or her arm at any time, but a raised arm will only be effective in stopping a truck when a uniform is worn.
More on seats
Your seat is not expressly about you. It is about God’s eternal purpose and the assignment He has entrusted to you. Your individual assignment is about God’s eternal purpose on earth. It is connected to generations before and after you.
He wants you to learn to exercise your authority over the things He has placed in your care.When you step over into the arena God has called you to, the unique expression of God that is hidden within you will begin to come forth.
It is and it isn’t about you
Much of the opposition in your life is not about you; it’s about your assignment, and consequently your seat of authority to help you execute your assignment.
